This is an introduction to the Erasing Light Art Basic Course,
a method of expressing light by erasing.

I have created many artworks with the hope of expressing
soft, translucent light using pastels.

Through drawing Flower of Crystal Art,
I came to fully enjoy expressing the world of light and flowers.

For a long time, I had wanted to explore designs beyond flowers.
Through much trial and experimentation,
I eventually arrived at a new expression:

Erasing Light Art — creating light by erasing.

This Basic Course was created as a shared foundation
to help expand artistic expression in the future.What Is Erasing Light Art?

Erasing Light Art is a technique in which
you first apply pastel color across the entire paper,
then carve out light using erasers and soft erasers.

By erasing:

• Light emerges
• Depth is created
• A gentle sense of dimension appears

This technique can be applied to figures, flowers, buildings, and various motifs.
Within the Flower of Crystal Art Academy,
it is positioned as one of the fundamental techniques for learning how to express light.

• Flowers are learned through Flower of Crystal Art
• Non-floral subjects are learned through Erasing Light Art

Features of the Course

We have prepared Academy-official pre-cut stencils in advance.

By using these finely cut official stencils,
even delicate and detailed designs can be handled with ease.

This allows participants to focus not on cutting,
but on what truly matters — erasing.

Using pre-cut stencils also ensures that
the final artwork remains refined and beautiful.

When working with pastels, erasing is an essential technique,
yet many people say it feels difficult.

I believe erasing is not something that can be mastered instantly.
That is exactly why the joy of achieving a beautiful result is so great.

In this course, to help you experience that sense of accomplishment,
we use pre-cut stencils for key areas,
so you can fully concentrate on erasing.

There is no need to worry,
“Can I cut the stencil neatly myself?”

You can participate with confidence and peace of mind.About the “Light Coloring Workshop”

Purpose of the Workshop:

Erasing Light Art also includes content that can be enjoyed
in a workshop-style format.

In the Light Coloring Workshop,
participants can experience pastel usage and light expression
in a way similar to coloring.

It is designed as a gentle introduction,
allowing people to discover the joy of pastels
and the doorway to expressing light.Certification System

Those who complete the Basic Course will receive
an Erasing Light Art Certificate (PDF).

Certified participants may:

• Hold certified courses
• Conduct Light Coloring Workshops

About the Erasing Light Art Certification Course

The Erasing Light Art Basic Course is a certification course
designed to help you correctly understand and continuously apply this technique.

It is not a course focused solely on completing a single artwork.

You will learn:

• The order in which to erase
• What to leave and what to erase
• The basic process: coloring with pastels → erasing to carve out light
• How to use regular erasers vs. kneaded erasers
• Stable and reproducible methods
• Understanding “subtraction” instead of “addition” in color expression

This course uses official motifs to teach both
the thinking process and technique.

While figures are used as teaching material in this course,
the skills learned here form a foundation
that can be applied to many other motifs in the future.

What You Can Do After Certification

Certified participants may:

• Open Erasing Light Art certified courses
• Hold workshops using official workshop designs
• Hold workshops using their own original designs
• Create original artworks using this technique
  and teach them to previous students
• Advance to future applied courses (e.g. buildings)

Position Within the Academy

Erasing Light Art is positioned as a shared foundational technique
within the Flower of Crystal Art Academy.

Advanced and applied courses will be offered
only to those who have completed this Basic Course
(schedule to be announced).

Erasing Light Art –
Official & Original Design Guidelines
Workshops and Lessons by Certified Instructors

Certified Instructors may hold workshops open to anyone using their own original designs created with Erasing Light Art techniques.

Original works created with standard pastel techniques may be taught only to participants who have completed the Basic Course.

Stencil Rules

For Academy Official Designs

• Only Academy-designated stencils may be used
• Copying or reuse is prohibited

For Instructor Original Designs

• Stencils may be created by the instructor

You will learn the basics of Erasing Light Art
through four motifs:

Guardian Wings – heart-shaped wings

The Courage to Be Reborn – a seated angel

Beyond – an angel seen from behind

Next Stage – a ballerina

By completing each piece,
you will acquire a shared understanding of
expressing light through erasing.

• Those who understand how to use pastels
  (e.g., pastel certification holders or experienced learners)

You may take this course even if
you have not studied Flower of Crystal Art before.

I have studied pastels at a culture school and understand how to use them.
Am I eligible to take this course?

Yes, you are welcome to join.
As long as you understand the basic use of pastels—such as applying color with pastels and erasing color using an eraser—you can take this course without any problem.

Is it mandatory to purchase the official stencils?

Yes. We ask that you purchase and use them.
When drawing the Academy’s official motifs used in the certification course, the designated official stencils must be used.

These stencils are designed to make the process easier and to help you achieve beautiful results more smoothly.

After completing the course, can I hold workshops using my own original designs?

Yes, absolutely.
We would be happy if you share the joy of pastels with many people.
The Light Coloring Workshop allows participants to experience pastel colors and express light by erasing, making it a wonderful opportunity to feel the essence of light expression.

What should I do if I want to purchase additional stencils?

The official stencils are made with a thin material to prioritize ease of erasing.
If a stencil is damaged, or if you need additional stencils when holding certification courses, please place an additional order.

I have not taken the Flower of Crystal Art course.
Can I still take the Erasing Light Art course?

Yes, you can.
